Many people believe that you are born with confidence, and if it wasn’t in your gene pool then you’re doomed. If this is you, keep reading. Confidence is something built over time, and the more you practice it, the stronger it becomes!

Here are some tips you can apply every day to keep your confidence muscle growing.

Give a compliment and take a compliment.

Be genuine and think of something nice to say to someone else. When you start to recognize the positives in others, you may start to see the positives within yourself!

Tell your roommate how beautiful she looks today. Send an email or text to a coworker, reminding them how valued they are. Compliment your significant other, give them an extra reason to smile today. It’s also crucial that you learn how to take a compliment. Most people don’t give them out for free, so you’re earning it! Receive it and hold on to it.

Do something.

Most people feel more accomplished and confident about themselves when they recognize where they are at and where they want to be, and actually do something about it.

Take a step today. Ask yourself where you want to be, and what you are doing to get there. Set manageable goals and work at them. If you do your best, it’s also less likely that you will have regrets about the outcome.

Use criticism to your benefit.

Be sure to remember:

“Criticism is just the opinion of somebody else. Be assertive when receiving criticism, don’t reply in a defensive way or let criticism lower your self-esteem. Listen to the criticism and make sure that you understand what is being said, use criticism as a way to learn and improve.”

Stand up for yourself.

It’s okay to have an opinion that someone else disagrees with. If you believe it, stand up for it! Pull out your soapbox, and let your voice be heard. “Confidence comes not from always being right, but not fearing to be wrong.”

Crank some tunes.

There’s something to be said for a good pump-up jam. Sometimes you just need to embody the words and emotion, and belt it out in song. Sing like no one is listening, feel the rhythm and let the music embody you.

Share your confidence.

Times are changing, and that means a lot more of our lives, our emotions and our confidence is shared with those around us. Social media has had a big impact on our lives, giving friends and family a more personal look at you and your life. You choose how you want to present yourself, and showing your confidence is the perfect way to go.

So smile big and show this world what kind of awesome you’re made of!
